Mandatory Fields

Fields marked with a * MUST be filled in because they are needed to generate your web address and for people to find your site through the Search page. Your email address is required so we can mail you confirmation of your owner's password.

If you change your mind about creating or editing a web site, click the gold coloured Cancel button. Your new web site will only go online for real if you click the Publish button.

Title

The title of your web site could be the name of your business (eg. J. Smith Limited) or it could reflect what you do (eg. Vintage Cars or Georgian Stamps).

Web address

Your web address is automatically generated after you Publish your site (or will be the same as last time if you are editing your site). It takes the form www.easisites.co.uk/yourtitle where the 'yourtitle' part is whatever you fill in as the title of your web site, but with spaces and non-Internet characters removed.

Category

Select the category you are in. If there is no suitable category, choose {None of the Above}... we will email you to ask what category you would like. When you hear from us that the new category is available, you can update your page to suit.

Short Snappy Description

Enter a short snappy description about who you are or what you do - something that will attract visitors to your web site (eg 'restoring vintage cars'. Combined with your main web site Title this description is what Search Engines will consider most important about your site. For best results use a phrase or statement you think people might type when searching for your kind of product or service.

Contact, Phone, Fax, Mobile, Email, Postal Address, Other web site

Just fill in the ones that apply and leave the others blank
Contact: the person that callers should ask for if they contact you.
Email: This is a Required field because we need it to send you a reminder of your owner's password.
Web: if you have another web site people could visit... for example, www.mywebsite.co.uk.

Page Titles

Each page should have a title to introduce the subject of the following text on the page.

Freestyle text areas

Type whatever you like to describe your products or services. If you want to type more than seems to fit in the box, that's OK. The text will begin to scroll and the system will let you carry on for ages and ages - and it will all be displayed on your web site. HOWEVER, it's best to keep your messages brief if you expect people to read them right through. If you have a lot to say, spread it out across several pages.

Preview

This button opens an extra window to give you an idea of how your published site will look. The Preview window closes automatically when you click away from it so that you don't inadvertantly look at out-of-date Previews.

Style

This button lets you change the page layout style without having to re-type everything you've entered so far.

Password

Once your web site is online you can update it (edit it) as often as you like. You just visit your own pages and click the link for updating. You'll be asked for a password (we can't allow just anybody to change your page). You get that password when you first Publish a new site... when that happens, write it down and don't lose it!

Pictures

Click a picture to access the pages where you make the choices or upload your own.

In order to cope with different page layout styles, pictures are always displayed as a square shape. If you are going to upload your own pictures you'll get best results with square ones (height the same as the width).

Changing pages

Click the gold buttons for Next or Previous page.

Deleting pages

You cannot delete Page 1 of your site. But your published site only displays further pages where you have entered a Title or some Freestyle text. If you want to remove a page, delete the text on it.. If you delete the text on a page it also stops any higher number pages being displayed.

Page background

Click the gold button to access the page where you make a choice. There are lots to choose from. If you want to go back to plain white, choose it as the background.

If there's no gold button labelled Background it's because you're using one of the page layout styles that doesn't have changeable background colours.

Bold and Italic

At present we have no easy-click way to make text bold and italic - web sites just don't work that way unfortunately.
To make certain WORDS stand out, the easy way is to use capitals.

But, if you are confident with regular web-style tags you can use them for bold and italic (not for beginners).
<B>makes text bolder</B> as long as it has the angle brackets either side like here.
<I>makes text italic looking</I> as long has it has the angle brackets as shown.

Remember you can Preview your site to see if you've got the tags right.

Size and Colour

You can also use special tags to alter the size and colour of the text
<font size="+2">makes</font> it 2 sizes bigger - use a minus to make it smaller.
<font color="red">makes it red</font> This works with red, green, blue and other basic colour names. Use the American spelling of color !

Font

And you can also use special tags to alter the typeface or font.

Type <font face="......" in front of the text you want to change ("......" could be, for example "Arial" ), and </font> after the text you want to change.

<font face="Arial">makes it arial</font>

Remember, though, that not all type faces or fonts are available on all pc's and not all are easy to read on the web. Best stick with the standards - like "Times New Roman" and "Arial" (or "Sans Serif" is you are using an AppleMac).

Indent

The special tags can be used to indent text. Type

<Blockquote> in front of the text you want to indent and </Blockquote>

after the text you want to indent.

Bullets

Bullets are refered to as an Un-ordered List (not numbered) and each line in the list is called a List Item, so to create a bullet list you go...

<ul><li>item 1
<li>item 2
<li>item 3
<li>item 4</ul>

which, will appear on your web page as:

  • item 1
  • item 2
  • item 3
  • item 4

These notes will appear if you click the Help button on the gold bar at the top of the page when you are creating or editing your web site
